RIP David “Rocky” Rocastle

Just a quick update today to mention the ten year anniversary of the death of David “Rocky” Rocastle, who played with Arsenal from 1984 to 1992. Rocky was a great player on the pitch, but perhaps more importantly an even greater person off of it. Fans young and old who had the pleasure of meeting him always spoke highly of his friendly nature and eagerness to embrace the club’s fans. Many ‘heroes’ of the modern game would do well to learn from his example.

Sadly, Rocky lost a very abrupt battle with an aggressive form of cancer on March 31, 2001. His sudden passing at the age of only 33 is a reminder to us all that life is both special and fragile and we encourage everyone today to take a moment to reflect on that fact. Football is important to us all, but no matter who you support or dislike, at the end of the day we must all remember what matters in the bigger picture.

R.I.P. Rocky, never forgotten. Take care everyone.
